Cynthia Wiesner

Cynthia has been working in the film and entertainment industry for over 25 years, wearing many hats: film distributor, programmer, producer, and consultant. Wiesner Distribution has had the privilege of discovering and distributing some of the most exciting independent films, mainly in Spanish, across Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Central America, and Ecuador.

"My passion for storytelling and connecting audiences with impactful films has shaped my career," Cynthia says. "I love bringing unique, high-quality content to the big screen, championing new voices and diverse perspectives from around the world."

Cynthia participated in Platino Training, organized by EGEDA, where she worked on the pitching sessions of 17 Ibero-American projects. She facilitated strategic connections between producers and international buyers, several of whom expressed strong interest in the selected projects, strengthening co-production opportunities and international positioning. As a consultant, my mission is to help your project find its audience through a bespoke distribution strategy that maximizes its reach, impact, and success.

Experience

Wiesner Distribution (2000 to Present) | CEO, President

Wiesner Distribution has curated and distributed over 700 international films across Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Central America, and Ecuador.

Wiesner Distribution started out partnering with Blockbuster Video in Puerto Rico in the 2000's and developed the International Films Section. Over the years, we've adapted as distribution has changed beyond recognition from theatrical to video rental store streaming platforms. What has never changed is our passion to bring the best stories to our audiences, wherever they are.

Our portfolio includes acclaimed filmmakers such as Nanni Moretti, Aki Kaurismäki, Fatih Akin, Fernando Trueba, Julio Medem, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Icíar Bollaín, Claudia Llosa, Juan José Campanella, Pablo Trapero, Pablo Larraín, and Marcos Carnevale, among other great directors.

We set a national record with the Spanish-Argentine co-production Elsa & Fred (2005), which ran for 76 weeks in Puerto Rico cinemas.

Last year, Spanish Cinema Week celebrated a very special edition with the presence of guest of honor Eduardo Noriega, who joined us in commemorating the 25th anniversary of Wiesner Distribution by presenting a special screening of Tesis, one of the great classics of Spanish cinema. The program featured an outstanding selection of titles and received an big response from audiences, further consolidating the event as one of the favorites among Puerto Rican filmgoers.
